Turf – Perennial Rye Grass Blend – Full Sun

Turf seeds will produce long-lasting, narrow-leaf grass blades for a uniform lawn that does well with full sun throughout the day. “Full sun” grass seed is bred for lawns that get around 8 hours of sun daily.

Turf ground cover is suitable for lots of foot traffic and activity. Only a few species of cool-season seed produce turf appropriate for the Northeastern United States.

Cut turf grass when it reaches a height of two inches or lower.

Sun and Shade Blend

Different seed types produce grasses that need varying amounts of sunlight for optimal health and growth. Whereas some need full, direct sun all day, others do better with much less.

Because of this, it can be complicated to plan an idyllic landscape and lawn for a major project. You need to know your terrain and the amount of sun your grass will get throughout the day and seasons.
Existing structures, trees and bushes, and the angles of shade they provide need to be taken into account when choosing grass seeds. If a lawn will get a varied amount of sun (four to six hours daily), a Sun & Shade Blend might be best. While most grass will be able to deal with periods of excess sunlight, not all cope well with cloudy seasons.

Certain sections of the landscape might get no shade at all, while others might be moderate to very shady. In such cases, you’ll do best by combining several types of enhanced seed. If planned correctly, the lawn should thrive with four to eight hours of sunlight daily.

SugarHollowFarms’ grass seed blends will produce a uniform, lush green lawn. They are resistant to disease, drought, and pests.

Shade Blends

Shade poses a challenge when you are trying to grow a thriving, lush lawn. Most grasses struggle to some extent in very shady areas. Lawn grass needs light, water and oxygen to survive. But the roots of shade-providing plants also take nutrients and water away from the grass. Shade also tends to make soil retain moisture and worsen drainage problems.

Grass planted in shady spots can grow weak and thin as it fights to reach sunlight. When this happens, most strains will start to lose their nice green color. They also become more susceptible to disease and pests.

With Sugar Hollow Farms Landscaping Materials’ Sun & Shade or Shade Blends, you’ll get some enhanced varieties that can meet your specific shade conditions.

Landscaper’s Blend (Annuals)

Annual plants and flowers can add great character, color and personality to a lawn and garden.
“Annuals” go through their entire life cycle within a single growing season.

Annuals’ season usually ends with the first frost. Most annual plants will need to be replanted each year. Some varieties however, will seed themselves if the flowers are allowed to bloom seed heads.

Sugar Hollow Farms has a special blend of annual plants made particularly for the needs of professional landscapers, and DYI homeowners who want their lawn to look as if it is professionally landscaped. Contact us for more information.

Trimming trees and shrubs can increase the sunlight that reaches the grass. This can even help shade-tolerant varieties.

Shade can exacerbate soil pH imbalances. Discourage weed invasions by taking steps to balance the soil’s pH.

Give the grass greater blade surface by mowing at an increased height. This will give the grass more sunlight and boost root development.

Limit foot traffic and activity on weak lawns to reduce damage.
